Skylar Richardson is an American woman who made headlines in 2017 when she was accused of killing her newborn baby and burying the body in her backyard. She was a teenager at the time of the incident and claimed that the baby was stillborn. However, prosecutors argued that Richardson had intentionally killed the baby after giving birth in secret.
In 2019, Richardson stood trial for aggravated murder, involuntary manslaughter, gross abuse of a corpse, and child endangerment. After a highly publicized trial, Richardson was acquitted of the most serious charges but was found guilty of abuse of a corpse. She was sentenced to three years of probation and no jail time.
The case sparked a national debate about reproductive rights, mental health, and the criminal justice system's treatment of pregnant women. Richardson has since tried to move on from the case and rebuild her life.
